Of Mice And New York Men

On a plane to New York City, a few thoughts circle through my head.

  1. I have no idea what to do there.
  2. I hope I don’t look like a tourist.
  3. The hotel is gonna be awesome.
  4. Food.

Number two became a spiraling thought that stayed near and dear throughout the entire four-day New York City excursion. I packed my finest blacks, new striped slip-ons, some essential hair product. But as we drove to the airport earlier that morning – something like 6am – I realized I forgot a crucial accessory. My giant, midnight black Ray Ban wayfarers. Fail.

I’ve never been a New York lover.

More of a New York stresser.

discovery weekend // helium takes a tour de Florida

This past weekend the helium team did a tour de central/west Florida. We recently started working on a new lifestyle real estate project and wanted to discover the outdoor world central to the development’s offering. The client is planning multiple locations, each providing a specific branded experience tailored to the outdoor lifestyle of the particular area. We wanted to educate and immerse ourselves in the outdoor adventure/conservation world to get our creative juices flowing so we took a little field trip.

helium travels // inspiration from peru

Travel – it’s a chance to explore, to learn, to expand your horizons, to try new things and meet people vastly different from yourself. It spawns not only new ideas but entirely new ways of thinking about the world; a new perspective, a new dimension to your persona. Which you can then share, and that’s exactly what helium’s art director Ryan is doing in this post. Sharing an amazing experience he and Chris had while traveling in Peru.

Machu Picchu is one of those places I heard people talk about, but it always seemed like some mystical, far away land.
Totally intangible.
Totally unattainable.
Until suddenly I’m standing on the World Wonder overlooking a sea of green mountains that seem as endless as the library of photos I took.

california dreaming – inspiration from the california coast

The helium team loves to travel. We crave new experiences, people and places; they give us a fresh perspective on life and, of course, tons of design inspiration. Traveling renews the soul and inspires creativity. Kristin, helium’s marketing coordinator, recently visited Los Angeles then drove up the California coast over 5 days staying in a different town each night. From the museums and movie studios of Los Angeles to the beach, jagged coastline, hills of Santa Barbara county and Red Wood forest just outside San Francisco, Kristin shares highlights and inspiration from her trip in this post.

Part of my first day in LA was spent at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, CA. Yeah, yeah, I know – such a tourist thing to do. But the 3 hour tour gives an amazing behind the scenes look at the creation of our favorite shows and movies, from Friends to Batman to The Ellen Show and countless others.
