Ryan, helium’s art director, has been a huge fan of artist Lauren Pascarella’s work for many years. Now that the rest of the helium team is familiar with her work, we love it as well! Ryan + Lauren are also high school friends, which made her the perfect person to interview for the first helium [those who inspire] vlog episode!
Lauren calls herself a new media photographer, meaning that she uses different types of media using the camera as a brush, a tool to create the final work. She photographs an object, then folds + cuts that print, then photographs it again, then cuts + folds some more, finally combining it with other photographed objects to create a sculpture that may be 3D or may be a photograph in its final form. Check out the interview to learn why Lauren is such an inspiration to Ryan, what her process is, and how she deals with artist block. We’d love to hear what you think in the comments and be sure to give us a thumbs up if you enjoy the video!
