When Chris + Ryan first approached me to design their Save the Dates, I was super stoked. I totally nerd out over invites, birthday cards – any kind of card actually. It was probably ever since I got my first stamp set from my aunt, who hand-made every single one of my birthday cards since I was eight years old. I’ve made my own cards for every occasion ever since.
There was no other way to begin than to just pin uncontrollably on Pinterest, otherwise known as the Black Hole when it comes to weddings. The start of it all – as weird as it sounds – actually came from a dress that was completely elegant yet modern and rustic, all at the same time. This is when I knew I wanted to add texture and incorporate the wedding-in-a-barn theme throughout. From what kind of envelope I was planning to put the Save the Dates in, to what type of liner the envelopes had. What kind of ink I would use to handwrite all the guests’ addresses with, and what the actual Invite Suite would entail. Every detail had to be perfect and have a purpose, all while finding the perfect blend of Ryan’s minimalistic style and Chris’s rustic obsession.
I developed a color scheme directly from the dress, and then substituted the tan for a copper metallic. The hand drawn foliage and the C & R truly became a branded logo for the wedding overall. The details of the twine + copper grommets and the really thick letterpress paper are personally my favorite parts of the package, and seeing how it all came together from those first elements makes me love looking at how this project turned out even more.
