We Love Typography

We Love Typography

Typography can either make or break a design piece, but it seems to be an afterthought in many people’s creative processes.

A font is much more than something you pick from a drop down list in your software; there is history behind every typeface and the design of these typefaces communicate something about the era they were created in and the culture that surrounded them at the time. Each letterform is unique and has elements that give it a different feel from others, this is what makes a certain typeface appropriate for one use but not another.

When choosing a font it is important to consider things like the history of the font and when it was created. The font below called Shelley Script, was designed by Matthew Carter in 1972 for the linotype machine. This machine produces an entire line of metal type at once. The font works well as display type and has an elegance about it. It is often used on greeting cards, invitations, packaging, etc.

Typography is a very broad subject and is constantly changing, there is always something new to discover and consider when about letterforms and typesetting. Each time one of our designers considers the font for a specific piece they consider the various elements of the type and make sure that we use the most appropriate one for the piece. The team of creative geniuses at helium creative loves typography, we love the history, we love the story it tells and we love how it can completely change a design piece and give each piece of creative that special something!

DAVEY AWARDS International Design Award

Heading into our 9th year of business, we decided to enter our work in the Davey Awards, an international design competition. This year there were 4,000 entries from around the world, and helium is proud to say that we won 2. With only 3 winners in each category, we are honored to have been recognized. We received an award in the entertainment category for the Blue Martini website, bluemartinilounge.com as well as a self-promotion nod for our website heliumcreative.com.

Following our success in the Davey Awards, we have entered additional competitions and hope to share more milestones in the future.

Thanks to both our amazing clients and the entire team for making these awards possible.

CREATIVE GIVING BACK Salvation Army, Fort Lauderdale

For the annual helium holiday party this year, we asked our guests to bring in an unwrapped, art-inspired gift for children in distress. It’s all about passing that creative energy forward. The gifts came in abundance and our tree spilled out with donations. This week we had the privilege of dropping off the gifts and witnessing The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree process in full force. An entire gymnasium was filled with toys and volunteers who were making thousands of families wishes come true. Thanks to the Salvation Army and our community, 3,200 children in need will have a brighter Christmas!

HOLIDAY PARTY helium celebrates the holidays

This year helium creative hosted a holiday party for our clients, friends and FAT Village neighbors. Being the creative team we are, we encouraged everyone to get creative themselves and make a holiday ornament for our tree using repurposed materials. Thanks to everyone who contributed – we have some great additions to the tree!

We met at our office for a meet and greet, then eventually made our way over to the warehouse across the street for a circus show by Rainbow Circus. The performers worked their magic and continued the creative energy well into the night. If you missed this year’s festivities, we look forward to seeing you next year.

We want to give a special thanks to those who help make the evening possible. Panache Style for their amazing lighting and decorations, Rainbow Circus for the great show, Dapur for the delicious food and drinks and Doug Mccraw for the space.
